Anastasia, the Moldovan Polyglot, Reaches Final of Chinese Speaking Competition

Year 12 student, Anastasia Iarovoi, one of Liverpool College’s boarding students has reached the final of a national competition for Chinese speaking students who were not born n China.
Anastasia, who comes from Moldova , speaks seven languages including Russian, Korean, German, English, Latin, Romanian and Mandarin Chinese. She is currently studying English Literature, Russian, Mathematics and History. The competition, called ‘Chinese Bridge’ was held at the London Confucius Institute and tested the competitors through presentations on why they loved China, followed by 300 questions testing their knowledge of Chinese history, culture, geography and general knowledge. A final challenge was to present a particular talent. Anastasia chose Chinese tongue-twisters which earned her a place, along with 4 others in the final taking place in June with a top prize of a trip to China for the competition winner.
