Adams’ pupils build links with Barnardo’s
Wednesday 25th January 2017
Year Nine pupils from Adams’ Grammar School gave up the first day of their holiday to give a Christmas party for children who use a nearby Barnardo’s Centre.
The five boys organised the event at Cannock Childrens Centre for 45 children under eight years old. They provided party food, games and craft making activities with the highlight being a visit from Father Christmas himself.
The boys’ form tutor and Head of History, Jess Biddulph, was on hand to help organise the event and she explained how it came about. ”The boys were inspired by a video they saw online about the work Barnardo’s does to help disadvantaged children and they wanted to do something to help. The party was a great success and the boys really enjoyed seeing the joy their efforts gave the children and their parents. All of the children left with gifts and chocolates as well as Christmas cards and crafts to show their parents.”
Food and gifts which were left over were donated to the New Cross Children’s Hospital and the school received letters and thank you cards from both the hospital and the Childrens Centre.
The pupils plan to maintain their links with Barnardo’s and are already planning their next event to help the young friends they have made.
